6 year old Racking Horse (RHBAA eligible) Sooty Buckskin Gelding Standing 15.1h.
Rio is a well mannered, friendly horse with a willing to please, laid back personality and a good mind.
Plus he is STUNNING!
Rio spent most of his life in the woods of VA where he was ridden ALL OVER the mountains of East KY & VA. Bred and raised by a gentleman who put in the time to make a fantastic trail horse. Rio is a very experienced trail mount and has shown in a couple VA/KY shows and always placed on top. Parks out when mounting and parks to dismount. This fun lovable gelding could be one of those once in a lifetime partners.
Rio has a fantastic natural 4-beat rack that's relaxed, smooth and easy to ride. I believe it would be easy to teach Rio to canter under saddle.
This is truly a wonderful horse. It's very important to me that both horses and owners end up with the right partners but for the right person I highly recommend this wonderful young gelding!
Nearly all Rio’s life experience has been in the VA woods tral riding. Riding around Florida neighborhoods he has been nervous about things which I believe is just due to lack of experience in this environment. He is very sensitive to his rider and can feed off anxiety. Because of this I’d recommend an intermediate-advanced rider for Rio at this time. With a bit more time and experience put in I do think Rio would be suitable for a less experienced rider but at this time suggest intermediate-advanced.

LESS THAN IDEAL:
-
While Rio is very comfortable with some things lots of other horses wouldn’t be, I occasionally get strong nervous reactions to situations I wouldn’t expect to bother him by comparison (you could likely say this about most horses). However he is a quick and willing learner so working through those things when discovered is usually a pleasant process.
-
This horse loves to put his mouth on things. I haven’t had him try to bite but he will put leadropes. reins, etc in his mouth. If you don’t engage with his mouth he isn’t bad about it and you nearly forget it’s a thing. However if he is nervous he becomes more mouthy.
-
Sometimes needs consistent leg when initially leaving the property on his own
-
Can get impatient when standing tied and will start to paw (but hasn’t dug holes)
-
Sensitive to stress or anxiety from his rider/handler which can lead to him being extra jumpy or small tantrums. In those instances quiet hands and soothing tones typically gets him past that quickly.
-
Most spooks are “in place” where he just has a jolt. However for more extreme situations I’ve experienced 90 degree turns and on rare occasions 180 degree turns which he can be pretty quick about. However as soon as he is collected he has always stopped. Somebody who can help Rio continue to grow and progress in these situations will have themselves a fantastic horse that’s very difficult to replace.
